If you feel that there seems to be construction everywhere and new houses and flats are popping up at every turn, you are not imagining things.
Based on the numbers from Singapore Department of Statistics ("DOS"), there are 1.56m residential units, as compared to 1.03m in 2000. That is a whopping 50% increase or more than 500 thousand units (529,680 to be exact)!! HDB flats and condos accounted for 98.88% of the increase (or 523 723 units), while landed unit inched up by 7,993 units. No wonder Singapore looks more built-up nowadays compared to the past!
